Guinness, Cheese and Spring Onion Soda Bread

A super quick and easy Irish style bread that is not only delicious, but quick to get into the oven and bake. I like to serve up this bread with a good beef stew, perfect on a winters day.

Ingredients

350g self raising flour
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp of ground white pepper
1 bunch of spring onions, chopped 100g grated cheese
140ml Guinness
100g buttermilk
70g rolled oats

Here’s how:

Blend the flour, bicarb, salt and pepper into a mixing bowl.
Add the spring onions and grated cheese and mix again.
Make a well in the middle of the flour and pour in the beer and buttermilk. With a metal spoon, stir together to form a soft dough.
Transfer the bread mixture onto a clean work surface sprinkled with rolled oats.
As you shape the bread into a round loaf the oats will stick to the outside. Then transfer to a non stick Masterclass baking tray
With a sharp knife cut a cross into the centre of the bread approximately 1cm deep.
Bake the bread in a pre heated oven 190c for 25 to 30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when you tap the bottom.
